Tournaments:

During the season, there are various tournaments held throughout the region each Sunday (a few Rookie Tournaments on  Saturdays) from December through early March.   As a club, we participate in many of the tournaments that take place in our region.   While tournaments are optional,  we encourage our wrestlers to attend as many tournaments as possible as it  relates to his/her  experience and skill level.  The typical tournament requires your child to be present in the morning for weigh-ins with wrestling beginning mid-morning.   The tournament generally concludes in the mid-afternoon.  The brackets are all broken down based on age  and weight of the participating wrestlers.  Most of the area tournaments will have hundreds of participants which allows them to ensure that all wrestlers in one bracket are very similar in weight and are guaranteed to be of the same age group.     For first and second year wrestlers, we sign up for 3-5 "Rookie Tournaments" to match up our beginner wrestlers.  The following file  "Tournaments 101" is a simple guide on what to bring and prepare for our tournaments.

What To Expect:

If and how many tournaments your child wrestles will be determined by you the parent.  Wrestling is not always about winning and losing.  It's really about  conquering your fears (parents and kids alike)  which will prepare him/her  for life's challenges.    Win or lose,  your reaction is the most important factor in how your child will react. Losing a wrestling match for a young child can be more traumatic than a loss in a team oriented sport.   If your child knows that regardless of the results, you are proud of him/her for simply having the courage to compete.   Focus on the positives and it will make the tournament experience more rewarding.  Make sure your expectations are realistic and remember ... they are kids!
